Dixie Hardin,

Owner, artee fabrics & home

Use of Fabric: "A lot of people avoid using window coverings, but draperies can really finish a room. A contemporary fabric pattern can do wonders for a simply colored room. Dixie remembers her first AHA! moment when she added great drapes to the red walls in her first home. "I think of a room as a gift. The wall color is the wrapping, but the window coverings are the bow on top!"

Tracy Tang,

Owner, Blue Hand Home

Use of Fabric: Another idea is to use an unexpected fabric as an everyday commodity. "When we were in Africa, we picked up fabric called Kikoys. In Africa, the fabric is used as baby slings. After returning home, the Kikoys became great throws and even table runners!" This is a great way to turn a souvenir into new decor.

Donna Benoist,
Owner, Fabric Solutions

Use of Fabric: "The first form of textile design originated in Indonesia with a process called Ikat." This fabric, similar to tie dye in appearance, looks best when used to reupholster worn out furniture or used as an accent in any room. Try reupholstering an old ottoman or adding pillow coverings to your couch to spice up your living room. A great tribal pattern can really bring a room to life!

Melissa Sutton,
Interior Designer, Paysage

Use of Fabric: "Lately, I am really drawn to using fabric in unexpected ways. Items that are not typically upholstered are visually very interesting when fabric is used. One great idea would be to cover an old frame or mirror with fabric. These projects are inexpensive, easy to do and can transform an old item into something new and creative.

Pam Thibault,
Owner, Crabby Chic

Use of Fabric: "Summer is a great time for changing up your home decor." Local boutique Crabby Chic, known for its coastal style, suggests using lightweight linen curtain panels because they can transform any room and are easy to change out each season. For repurposing, make pillow covers out of less expensive curtain panels.
